How to make it better

1. Keeping busy
This weekend was the Hoff's birthday and her parents were away, therefore even though I felt like sodding off into the land of naps and tears, I had no choice but to pull myself together and do something constructive. This involved a night out in Holborn on Saturday, where I got dressed up, danced with friends, got chatted up by a slightly weird bloke who wanted to know if he looked better with or without the fedora hat he was sporting (neither, I concluded) and lasted until 4am before climbing into a taxi and heading for bed. I also had the shortest yet most successful shopping trip ever, thanks to a brand new pair of....

2. Shoes
...which last week I talked myself out of on the basis that they cost way too much. Lying on the Hoff's sofa on Friday night, I declared "Hoff, I think I need to buy the shoes", at which point she decided that if I was going to buy my highly expensive shoes, she was going to do the same with the Pied e Terre beauties she'd seen the week before too. Off we trotted to Fenwicks in Brent Cross. "Can you not tell me how much they are, and just pop the receipt straight in the bag?" I said, before driving home less than 20 minutes later.

3. Phone
Was turned off and handed to a friend on Saturday night to prevent any D&T incidents.
Has also been used in abundance to call friends for advise and check blog comments on the move, they've acted as pick-me-ups when I was feeling low; your comments about all this are keeping me sane. And thank god for mobiles, as I've been trying to avoid...

4. Facebook
The little devil. Anyone who can resist a peek at this heap of shiz at a time like this deserves a massive bag of pick n mix. It's pretty much impossible to avoid, however I'm pleased to say the miserable statuses have been kept to a minimum.

And I haven't howled ONCE today.

Good move on the phone front.

I once got a friend to change his name in my phone so that I wouldn't know who to txt/call. But then I spent half the night trying to work out what named they'd changed it to... Not good!

And my friend currently has a pink post-it on the back of her phone with her ex's number on it. Because, apparently, if it's not actually saved into her phone book she doesn't think she'll do anything silly with it when drunk. Hmm. I'm waiting for her to indefinitely lose it in the depths of her handbag...

I'm guessing this is going to be a long 2weeks for you, but hopefully your 5 are helping 'making it better'.

I wish all girls could shop like you. Up until now I never thought girls could shop that fast. Thank You
Good call on the phone. Re: facebook, you could always get a friend to change your password for a few days. That way you wont have access to your profile and friends.

Well done! I’m happy to see that making things better did NOT include copious amounts of alcohol or pills. Surround yourself with sympathetic friends and you can’t go wrong! BEWARE the internet. It’s a Pandora’s Box that should be avoided at times like this. There is no comfort to be had in Facebook or a Google search. I have some regrets in this regard so take my word for it. And treat yourself to a good howl. Just not at your desk.

If you find your self near either Gatwick or Brighton then email me and I'll stand you a drink.

In the mean time take care and keep on being busy.

PS - I do like the idea that you gave your phone to a friend to guard - a very sensible thing to do.

I’ve been reading through your blog and really enjoyed it. sorry that things are not so great for you right now, I hope everything turns out how you want it too.

As for the drunk dialing – got to agree with these lot, I always take numbers out of my phone when I am drunk, after one too many embarrassing incidents.

rosie - sticking to the '5' is proving a good all round choice. As is talking to anyone who will listen!

robbie - It was definitely a world record, although if I know what I want I have no problem with being a quick shopper. Despite a love of shopping, I actually really don't like shopping centres. And good idea on the facebook thing. Really bloody good idea, actually...

unbearable - I've indulged myself in howling this weekend. There have been some lengthy howls, I think I'm all howled out. Owwwwwwwwwwwww

afc - Ah, I was in brighton last week. If you saw a load of suited people blindfolded and trying to put up a tent on the beach, that was us on our away day.

elaine - thank you. I've been thinking about myself too, for a change.

pjb & time traveller, my head is becoming clearer by the day.

ditto to what Afc said: if you ever find yourself in Birmingham, get in touch!

Yay for friends and keeping busy. I hope it's all going OK. I've been thinking of you lots.

Good for you!

Also, we should be FB friends.

blueskies - I'm feeling infinitely better than I have been. But then anything is better than the state I was in for a little while there. Yeesh.

Chris - See, but I think you're one of those guys with all the applications. You'd only turn me into a zombie or something.

Unknown said...

I don't even know how to use applications! I just joined like two months ago or something. If you choose not to friend me then it will be your loss! Well, I'm sure you'll probably be fine, but you'll regret it!

Okay, maybe you won't.
