Stupid Volcano

Five months I've waited.

Five, bloody, months.

If that bloody volcano stops a flight to Sydney leaving Heathrow on Monday, there will be two very unhappy bunnies on opposite sides of the world.

Stupid volcano.

Fingers crossed, please.

No worries, little bunny. It will all be over within 24 hours of this post. 48 Max.

Promise?

My news source until just now has been a text message. I had absolutely no idea it was happening.

(TV rooms in hostels are for films, not news reports you see )

Monday? You've got oodles of time. It'll be fine. Now go get a pedicure.

It's not looking good for Monday; a colleague was off the China today but was told it could be mid next week before he can go.

Something to do with capacity and having planes and staff in the wrong places.

I can see Gatwick flight path from my office window and there's nothing going on out there.

Fingers and toes crossed for you!

Problem is that he'll have to fly through Spanish or French airspace so UK being clear means nothing.

I'd guess he'll not be taking off until middle of next week, prob only a couple of days late assuming UK isn't again then enveloped by another splurge and unhelpful winds.

Hope I'm wrong.

Ellie - Monday morning and they think it's going to get worse. Waaaahhhh :(

AFC - Thats my thinking...there are going to be some big delays whether he flies or not. Bah. Hotel room for one.

Rachel - Thanks, I think we're going to need it!

Not twitter - I hope you're wrong too...had a bad feeling something ridiculously rare like this might happen.

I think we actually joked about it at one point like "HAHA! Imagine if it snowed and all the flights were cancelled!"

Imagine a massive cloud of ash and rock from a volcano that, before this year, last erupted in the 1800s, closing all airspace around Europe the weekend before you're due to fly. You can't write this shit. (just did)

I can't believe it, Jo! Fingers crossed for you guys!

It's focking ridiculous and I cannot even imagine how you feel.

It better be over soon so that he can get there and I can get to Italy on Thursday.

UPDATE: I might have been a little off with my prediction. It's a volcano! You can't predict when it's going to stop!

I know it's hard but better be on the other side of the world than in a plane with no engines.

My old man worked for Rolls-Royce all his life and there was bad incident in 1987 if my memory serves me rightly when a 747 was nearly brought down my ash.

It buggers up the combustion chambers. I'm sure he'd be giving me chapter and verse if he was still in the land of the living; I know one thing thought, he'd not one me flying in to an ash cloud.

He'll be there soon enough and it'll be a safe trip over.

In the mean time absence makes the heart grow stronger (or something like that anyway!)

Interesting stuff AFC...although the test flights are all coming back ok, but no doubt if something was to happen to a plane, it'd be the one with all the women and choir kids on it.
