Cheque's in the post

Temporary office employment may not give you financial security. It won't enable you to move out of home, buy a house or shop only in Harrods. It won't give you a career, Miu Miu bags or a fulfilled brain. It won't be anything other than menial, boring and occasionally underpaid. It won't make you independent, but dependent. It won't stop the need to spend long periods of time sitting at home on your arse sending off CVs. It won't make you happy in the long run, it won't help shake the feeling that 4 years at university should qualify you to do more than typing letters and making tea. It won't give you a salary, just an overtaxed weekly wage. It won't give you stability. It won't make you feel good about yourself.

However. Working for 6 months out of the year means you have time to discover other career options, do work experience and travel the world.

It will mean that you've got time to chase up loose ends and make phone calls.

It also means that when you call up Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to go through your tax codes and employment history, that you might hear the following words:

"Ah, yes. You have paid too much tax. Your cheque for £710.51 was actually put in the post yesterday"

And that, my little pork pies, is why temporary work is blooooody WELL good.

Well done! It's a bit like winning the national lottery, isn't it? And how timely! It's fuel for your trip.

I like cheques!! It's like collecting on a bank error in your favor on the Monopoly game!

Ooh I love those cheques! But it does annoy me that they so happily take the tax in the first place...

I think I need to chase mine up some time soon.
