Would you be kind enough as to give me some pointers as what to look for or avoid? Any help appreciated. I really appreciate your help.

Please do share the reply, too. Obviously. ;)

At least it wasn't an advert for a larger penis size or accessing hidden millions in Nigeria. That said, it sounds as if poor Julie needs your help. It's your civic duty to assist those in need after all. Or something.

Well, to be honest I'm not sure what to reply. It's been in my inbox for a couple of days now, and I'm baffled.

Any ideas?

I promise to include every suggestion in my reply.

EH?!

Weird.

Depends on what point you want to make. Serious, humorous, etc. Me, I would post a picture of Nicole Ritchie at her emaciated worst with a tagline "THATS WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DONT EAT".

Then again, I am cruel and heartless.

Even weirder, but I just got another email from the same address, saying:

Subject: What happens when you exercise but don t eat

Hello,
What happens when you exercise but don t eat?
I was thinking that your advice would be very helpful. I know you must be very busy so any pointers would be very much appreciated.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Larry

Is this some kind of cult?

Who are Larry and Julie?

Have you started a dating service?
A little yenta in our mix.

I wouldn't respond at all. Larry and Julie will somehow be able to access all your bank accounts by travelling through the internet thingy.

As Admiral Akbar famously said "It's a trap!"

Ellie - A dating service for anorexic exercise addicts. It's a very niche market.

Zstep - They could be criminal masterminds preying on the young and hungry.

What if they really need my help? Are they everywhere? Are they watching me...now?

they want you to become their fitness / nutrition expert...the instructor at dancercise probably passed on your details!

I once got an email asking me for the recipe for the soup in Bridget Jones's Diary. Kudos to the emailer for getting the reference to the film but how should I know how to make that soup any better than the next film viewer?

littlemiss - Yet another reason why exercise is bad. It clearly causes aches, pains and e-mail spam.

Blue - Haha, more to the point, why would you want to make a soup famed for being the wrong colour and, by all accounts, disgusting?

Could this be some sort of spy code ... ? You know like those little text boxes that (allegedly) sit amongst the classifieds reading "Yellow parrot sick. Must attend."

In which case - reply back instantly. Your country needs you.

PS : I've been getting dodgy e-mails lately too. But the least said about them the better.

I wonder what the scam is? This message is sent from some Eastern European hell hole. I just can't figure out how they extract your money from such innocent questions. They're a clever bunch. BEWARE!

MOT - Ohh, what, like "Dear Howling wolf - Meet the silver fox by the sparkling bin lid of doom. Grazi" ?
PS. The more said about your emails the better. You been communicating with your old Online Dating friends again?

Unbearable - That's the thing, I'm a little bit curious and want to reply to see what their game is...On the other hand, they might send me 10,000 more requests for information on eating. That's what I worry about. They can't do much more damage to my bank account.

I would hazard a guess that whoever has sent it is trying to get responses so they can see if the email address is still live and being monitored, and if so they will add your email address to a list to sell on to spammers.

Your email is up on this here blog in an unedited format. It's quite easy to write a program to scan thousands of pages for email addresses. I would recommend you change the @ sign to AT and that sort of thing - easy enough for most humans to still work out, but should confuse the more basic programs.

Good thinking Huw, I will put that suggestion into practice.....NOW!
