Credit crunched

After a manic weekend of all dayers (Friday, Christmas work lunch / booze fest) and all nighters (Saturday, Pendulum at Matter, bedtime: 8am), today I got eaten up by the big stinking recession, ie. given the "heave-ho it's curtain's for Jo" at my work. They're culling temporary and contract staff, most of them before Christmas, and what with me having not an awwwwful lot of work to do on a day to day basis I was one of what may be many to go.

It's not all doom, gloom and make room. Without the new internship there may have been slightly more to panic and be annoyed about, but as it is, I'd have been cutting down my hours even more in the next few weeks while I take on more writing work. It's just been nice to have money coming in while I do it.

On the plus side, I've got until the 22nd December so all the office Christmas parties will be covered, plus there's a secret santa so a present worth a fiver is in the bag too! WOOO YEAH! And it means I can ski for two weeks this season instead of one (hurrah! what dwindling funds?!).

But you know what - argh - I just get on so well with the people there and alas! the Office Hotty will have no one to borrow a new style Nokia charger off when I'm gone. This job has carried me through the last few months, the girls there have kept me sane and become good friends to boot. Socially it's kept me so unbelievably busy that I rarely have a night off during the week and when I do, it's a welcome relief.

And now with only part time hours to fill and a country which is laying off jobs left right and centre, I think what worries me more is the prospect of getting bored once the novelty of a 10am wake up wears off. Bloody recession.

In all seriousness, tonight whilst strolling through Selfridges eyeing up footwear I can no longer justify splurging on, I actually considered getting a job in a shoe shop.

Don't tell anyone. I'm over it now.

I'd be interested in your views on Pendulum live.

Yikes, That sounds a bit crazy.

More importantly, is that the end of Office Hotty completely?

Credit crunch, what credit crunch? - We left booking our New Year ski holiday until late, so as to snag a last minute bargain. The result we end up having to pay more than the Brochure price (ok so it's only £20 quid but it was £20 in the wrong direction). This is due to loads of cash strapped Brits going skiing.

We have also been having fun with Double Glazing salesmen - They kept telling us that the prices would be going up next year..... Does not sound like much of a credit crunch to me.

Reading between the lines I suspect the holiday companies have reduced the number of holidays available - I guess we should be Thankful that Opec have so far failed to do it for oil production recently. As for DG salesmen I would not trust them if they claimed the world was round and orbited the sun.....

Don't worry, Fern Britton returns to our screens after Xmas, you'll have plenty to fill the empty hours with. Well, up until 12.30 anyway, when the Loose Women start squawking, and then you'll want to put your tv in the microwave.

Brennig - It was an El Hornet DJ set rather than a Pendulum live PA, but I loved it. Plus Stanton Warriors and Freestylers were on beforehand, and I love a bit of dirty breaks so it was a great warm up. El Hornet came on at around 3am (if I remember right! Bit hazy!) and the place was hopping through til hmm, half 4? Followed up by Krafty Kuts who was good & on til 6ish. The sound system in Matter is crazy, literally chest rumbling bass in there. Seeing Prodigy at Brixton next Saturday, can't wait!

pjb - That's about the extent of my knowledge of the situation, too ;) Bloody bastard banks. or something.

Robbie - I think he has a gf. Infact, yes he does. Is that a facebook friend request I hear calling? All eyes on the relationship status!

Blacklog - I've been looking at ski hols, didn't think they looked too cheap either. But saying that Christmas, new year and feb half term are notoriously expensive, more so in feb this year because all the schools are off during the same week. What a mare. First week of Jan for me I think. Or two! & funny you should say that about DG salesmen, we had some round our the other week. Charlie nearly chewed their shoes which were left at the bottom of the stairs, then they quoted us £70k for our front windows. "Sod off" said my dad. "I think we've mis-measured, can we come back and check?" they replied...errr - NO!

Ems - Jeeeesus for a moment there I got all confused and thought Fearne COTTON was going to be ruining my mornings. I nearly chucked up on my keyboard. I'm not a morning person at the best of times, Cotton AM would send me right under...

With a bit of luck, as I write this, the credit crunch will also mean that Fearne Cotton's services will no longer be required as a squealing media piglet, and she will be reduced to selling her hair to make ends meet.

Love your attitude - get the hottie's details - there's a chance he could be single at some point...

Hmm, I thought this was coming. I caught up with Fire Man at the weekend and he said that job cuts were looming. Come and work for my new company! It's awesome (so far - er, first day was yesterday and I have today off!)

This is strange - the current R*c***sion and Cr***t CR**ch. My bf is unemployed and feverishly applying here there and everywhere for ANY job, and has been for the last 2 months, with no luck...
HSBC have cancelled their graduate scheme which was planned to start next year, just coz they can't afford new staff...
it's getting harder and harder to find a job, by all accounts, and easier and easier to get laid off.

On a lighter note, it really sounds like you've got things sorted with writing jobs (that sounds so ace, I am very pleased for you). I hope it works out :)

The pound has dropped a shocking amount against both the euro and the dollar (about 25% I think), so this will also push up the price of foreign holidays. You could always have 2 weeks in Scotland! :-)
